Purpose: To investigate the biocompatibility of silver nanoparticle (AgNP)-doped Ti-6Al-4V surfaces by evaluating the viability and proliferation rate of human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs)--as the dominant cells of peri-implant soft tissues-- seeded on the modified surfaces. Materials and Methods: AgNPs (sizes 8 nm and 30 nm) were incorporated onto Ti-6Al-4V specimen surfaces via electrochemical deposition, using colloid silver dispersions with increasing AgNP concentrations of 100 ppm, 200 ppm, and 300 ppm. One control and six experimental groups were included in the study: (1) control (Ti-6Al- 4V), (2) 8 nm/100 ppm, (3) 8 nm/200 ppm, (4) 8 nm/300 ppm, (5) 30 nm/100 ppm, (6) 30 nm/200 ppm, and (7) 30 nm/300 ppm. HGF cell primary cultures were isolated from periodontally healthy donor patients and cultured in direct contact with the group specimens for 24 and 72 hours. The cytotoxicity of AgNP-doped Ti-6Al-4V specimens toward HGF was assessed by the MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) and BrdU (5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine) assay tests. Calcein AM and ethidium homodimer (EthD-1) fluorescent stains were used to determine the live and dead cells. The morphology and attachment properties of the HGFs were determined via scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results: Energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) analysis confirmed the presence of AgNPs on the specimens. The MTT test revealed that AgNPs of both sizes and all concentrations presented a decreased cellular metabolic activity compared to the control discs. All concentrations of both sizes of AgNPs affected the cell proliferation rate compared to the control group, as revealed by the BrdU assay. Overall, cytotoxicity of the modified Ti-6Al-4V surfaces depended on cell exposure time. Observation via confocal microscopy confirmed the results of the MTT and BrdU assay tests. Specifically, most cells remained alive throughout the 72-hour culture period. SEM images revealed that adjacent cells form bonds with each other, creating confluent layers of conjugated cells. Conclusions: The findings of the present study indicate that Ti-6Al-4V surfaces modified with 8 nm and 30 nm AgNPs at concentrations of 100 ppm, 200 ppm, and 300 ppm do not produce any serious cytotoxicity toward HGFs. The initial arrest of the HGF proliferation rate recovered at 72 hours. These results on the antibacterial activity against common periodontal pathogens, in combination with the results found in a previous study by the same research group, suggest that AgNP-doped Ti-6Al-4V surfaces are potential candidates for use in implant abutments for preventing peri-implant diseases. Enantio-discrimination and spin-dependent electrochemistry (SDE), as a manifestation of the chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect, are important phenomena that can be probed by "chiral" electrochemistry. Here, we prepared chiralized surfaces of gold and nickel, to serve as working electrodes, through effective chemisorption of enantiopure dimethyl-bis(ethylenedithio)-tetrathiafulvalene (DM-BEDT-TTF) 1, tetramethyl-bis(ethylenedithio)-tetrathiafulvalene (TM-BEDT-TTF) 2, and their capped silver nanoparticle (AgNPs) aggregate by simple incubation of the metallic substrates. The effective chemisorption was checked by means of ultrahigh vacuum x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and by electro-desorption experiments, i.e., cyclic voltammetry (CV) scans showing a first electro-desorption peak at about −1.0 V. The Au|1 and Au|2 chiral electrodes were successfully used in CV experiments exploiting chiral redox probes. Finally, the hybrid interfaces Ni|enantiopure 1 or 2|AgNPs served as working electrodes in SDE experiments. In particular, the hybrid chiral interfaces Ni|(R)-2|AgNPs and Ni|(S)-2|AgNPs exhibited a significant spin-filtering ability, as a manifestation of the CISS effect, with average spin polarization values of 15%. Among the reagents mentioned above, plant-based materials seem to be the best candidates, and they are suitable for large-scale biosynthesis of nanoparticles.Methods: The aqueous extract of Moringa peregrina leaves was used to synthesize silver nanoparticles. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by various spectral studies including FT-IR, SEM, HR-TEM and XRD. In addition, the antioxidant activity of the silver nanoparticles was studied viz. DPPH, ABTS, hydroxyl radical scavenging, superoxide radical scavenging, nitric oxide scavenging potential and reducing power with varied concentrations. The anticancer potential of the nanoparticles was also studied against MCF-7 and Caco-2 cancer cell lines.Results: The results showed that silver nanoparticles displayed strong antioxidant activity compared with gallic acid. Furthermore, the anticancer potential of the nanoparticles against MCF-7 and Caco-2 in comparison with the standard Doxorubicin revealed that the silver nanoparticles produced significant toxic effects against the studied cancer cell lines with the IC50 values of 41.59 (Caco-2) and 26.93 (MCF-7) μg/mL.Conclusion: In conclusion, the biosynthesized nanoparticles using M. peregrina leaf aqueous extract as a reducing agent showed good antioxidant and anticancer potential on human cancer cells and can be used in biological applications.Keywords: plant-based nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles, Moringa peregrina, anticancer, antioxidant activity

Abstract In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles, mostly because of the evident limitations associated with chemical and physical methods. Green synthesis, commonly referred to as "biogenic synthesis," is seen as an alternative approach to produce AgNPs (silver nanoparticles). The current work focuses on the use of Asterarcys sp. (microalga) for biological reduction of AgNO3 to produce AgNPs. The optimal parameters for the reduction of AgNPs were determined as molarity of 3 mM for AgNO3 and an incubation duration of 24 h at pH 9, using a 20:80 ratio of algal extract to AgNO3. The biosynthesized Ast-AgNPs were characterised using ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), zeta potential, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) with selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns. The nanoparticles exhibited their highest absorption in the UV–visible spectra at 425 nm. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigation indicated the presence of characteristic peaks at certain angles: 38.30° (1 1 1), 44.40° (2 0 0), 64.64° (2 2 0), and 77.59° (3 1 1) according to the JCPDS file No. 04-0783. Based on SEM and TEM, the Ast-AgNPs had an average size of 35 nm and 52 nm, respectively. The zeta potential was determined to be − 20.8 mV, indicating their stability. The highest antibacterial effectiveness is shown against Staphylococcus aureus, with a zone of inhibition of 25.66 ± 1.52 mm at 250 μL/mL conc. of Ast-AgNPs. Likewise, Ast-AgNPs significantly suppressed the growth of Fusarium sp. and Curvularia sp. by 78.22% and 85.05%, respectively, at 150 μL/mL conc. of Ast-AgNPs. In addition, the Ast-AgNPs exhibited significant photocatalytic activity in degrading methylene blue (MB), achieving an 88.59% degradation in 120 min, revealing multiple downstream applications of Ast-AgNPs.

Background and Aim: The use of bioengineered nanocomposites as antimicrobials has increased in recent years, but very few investigations have been conducted to test their effectiveness against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a pathogen presenting public health risks that can impact both humans and animals. The aim of this study was to assess the antimicrobial potential of phytofabricated silver nanoparticles synthesized using lemongrass extract against clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa. Materials and Methods: The extraction of active compounds from the leaves of Cymbopogon citratus was performed using ethanol (80%) as a solvent, high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was used to analyze the chemical composition of the extract, the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was done using silver nitrate (AgNO3) as a precursor, and the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity of the extract and the AgNPs phytofabricated was assessed against 10 clinical strains of P. aeruginosa. Results: Lemongrass extract was found to consist of the following main compounds: Caffeic acid (445.21 ± 32.77 μg/g), p-coumaric acid (393.32 ± 39.56 μg/g), chlorogenic acid (377.65 ± 4.26 μg/g), quinic acid (161.52 ± 17.62 μg/g), and quercetin-3-glucoside (151.35 ± 11.34 μg/g). AgNPs were successfully phytofabricated using 2.5 mM AgNO3. The ultraviolet (UV)-visible absorption spectra of the AgNPs showed a localized surface plasmon resonance at 464 nm with an absorbance of 0.32 A. The 50x hydrodynamic diameter was 50.29 nm with a surface area value of 120.10 m2/ cm3, and the volume mean diameter and Sauter mean diameter were 50.63 nm and 49.96 nm, respectively. Despite the compound found in lemongrass extract, no antimicrobial activity was observed with the extract, while AgNPs exhibited noteworthy dose-dependent antimicrobial activity with inhibition diameters up to 24 mm and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration ranging from 2 to 16 and 4–64 µg/mL, respectively. AgNPs also demonstrated significant antibiofilm activity by inhibiting biofilms up to 99% between MIC/2 and 2MIC. Conclusion: The present study suggests that lemongrass is a good candidate for the synthesis of AgNPs with good physicochemical characteristics and having a strong anti-pseudomonas activity. Further research is needed to assess the stability and safety of these AgNPs.

Abstract Background Early blight (EB) of Tomatoes, caused by Alternaria solani, is a serious fungal disease that adversely affects tomato production. Infection is characterized by dark lesions on leaves, stems, and fruits. Several agrochemicals can be used to control infection, these chemicals may disrupt environmental equilibrium. An alternative technology is needed to address this significant fungal threat. This study was designed to control the growth of EB in tomatoes caused by A. solani, using green-fabricated silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs). Results Ag-NPs were synthesized through an environmentally friendly and cost-effective approach using leaf extract of Quercus incana Roxb. (Fagaceae). The physico-chemical characterization of the Ag-NPs was conducted through UV-visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. The Ag-NPs produced were round with a mean diameter of 27 nm. The antifungal activity of these Ag-NPs was assessed through in vitro Petri plate and in vitro leaflet assays against A. solani. The green fabricated Ag-NPs exhibited excellent antifungal activity in vitro at a concentration of 100 mg/l against A. solani, inhibiting growth by 98.27 ± 1.58% and 92.79 ± 1.33% during Petri plate and leaflet assays, respectively. Conclusion In conclusion, this study suggests the practical application of green-fabricated Ag-NPs from Q. incana leaf extract against A. solani to effectively control EB disease in tomatoes.

Urinary incontinence is the major sign of menopause genitourinary syndrome and is usually related to the sexual dysfunctions. Fifty percent of menopausal women have menopausal urinary tract. Menopause genitourinary syndrome is a hypoestrogenic condition with external sexual, urological, and genital implications. The production of estrogen decline after menopause is an important parameter for urinary incontinence. Recently, nanotechnology has been applied as a remedial option for the genitourinary disease treatment. Silver nanoparticles were mediated by the Silybum marianum aqueous extract for the menopausal urinary incontinence treatment in ovariectomized rats in the current experiment. The green-formulated AgNPs@Silybum marianum were characterized by FT-IR, TEM, SEM, and UV–Vis. The SEM findings prove the spherical morphology with size of 15–60 nm. The ovariectomized rats were treated by AgNPs@Silybum marianum (5 and 20 µg/kg/day) for 56 days. According to the results, AgNPs@Silybum marianum increased the urinary bladder weight and reduced the body weights in comparison with the untreated rats. AgNPs@Silybum marianum rats indicated a dose-dependent amelioration for the acetylcholine contraction index. AgNPs@Silybum marianum also ameliorated the levels of serum 17β-estradiol, urinary bladder hydroxyproline, triglyceride, cholesterol, LDL, HDL, ALP, AST, and ALT in the ovariectomized rats. Based on the experiment results, the recent formulation may be applied for the menopausal urinary incontinence treatment in humans after performing the clinical research.

Panax japonicus has long been utilized as an herbal remedy in Chinese traditional medicine for treating various diseases. In this investigation, we present the environmentally friendly silver nanoparticle (AgNP) synthesis by the aqueous extract of P. japonicas to follow its cardioprotective effects. Through various analytical methods, we identified the nanoparticles (NPs). Our XRD findings revealed the formation of Ag@P. japonicus, while FE-SEM imagery indicated a spherical shape, with NPs measuring less than 40 nm. The UV–Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy confirm the green synthesis of Ag@P. japonicus. In the medicinal section, 45 Wistar rats were utilized. These groups consisted of a normal group, a group that was solely treated with isoproterenol for inducing myocardial infarction, and two groups that were pretreated with AgNPs at different doses for 14 days. These pretreated groups were then challenged with isoproterenol. The expression of PI3K/Akt/mTOR and other downstream inflammatory and apoptotic mediators were followed. Additionally, the expression of Keap1, Nrf2, ECG, cardiac markers, and other downstream antioxidant enzymes were assessed. Treatment with AgNPs ameliorated the apoptosis, inflammation, and myocardial autophagy, regulated the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, increased the antioxidant enzyme efficacies, and activated the Keap1/Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. The findings suggest that AgNPs may have a cardioprotective efficacy on myocardial infarction by mitigating the Keap1/Nrf2 pathway, GST, GPx, GSH, SOD, IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, NF-κB, Bax, Bcl2, caspase-9, caspase-3, and PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway. Furthermore, the treatment decreased the infarct region size, attenuated the cardiac indicators levels, and mitigated immune cell infiltration and myocardial necrosis.

Abstract This study was divided into two parts. The first part involved the isolation, and detection of the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance profile of Aeromonas hydrophila, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Vibrio species from Nile tilapia fish and marine aquatic water. One hundred freshly dead Nile tilapia fish were collected from freshwater aquaculture fish farms located in Al-Abbassah district, Sharkia Governorate, and 100 samples of marine aquatic water were collected from fish farms in Port Said. The second part of the study focused on determining the in vitro inhibitory effect of dual-combination of AgNPs-H2O2 on bacterial growth and its down regulatory effect on crucial virulence factors using RT-PCR. The highest levels of A. hydrophila and P. aeruginosa were detected in 43%, and 34% of Nile tilapia fish samples, respectively. Meanwhile, the highest level of Vibrio species was found in 37% of marine water samples. Additionally, most of the isolated A. hydrophila, P. aeruginosa and Vibrio species exhibited a multi-drug resistance profile. The MIC and MBC results indicated a bactericidal effect of AgNPs-H2O2. Furthermore, a transcriptional modulation effect of AgNPs-H2O2 on the virulence-associated genes resulted in a significant down-regulation of aerA, exoU, and trh genes in A. hydrophila, P. aeruginosa, and Vibrio spp., respectively. The findings of this study suggest the effectiveness of AgNPs-H2O2 against drug resistant pathogens related to aquaculture.

Abstract With the growing resistance of pathogenic microbes to traditional drugs, biogenic silver nanoparticles (SNPs) have recently drawn attention as potent antimicrobial agents. In the present study, SNPs synthesized with the aid of orange (Citrus sinensis) peel were engineered by screening variables affecting their properties via Plackett–Burman design. Among the variables screened (temperature, pH, shaking speed, incubation time, peel extract concentration, AgNO3 concentration and extract/AgNO3 volume ratio), pH was the only variable with significant effect on SNPs synthesis. Therefore, SNPs properties could be enhanced to possess highly regular shape with zeta size of 11.44 nm and zeta potential of − 23.7 mV. SNPs purified, capped and stabilized by cloud point extraction technique were then checked for their antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus, Listeria innocua, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium and Candida albicans. The maximum antimicrobial activity of SNPs was recorded against E. coli, L. monocytogenes and C. albicans with clear zone diameter of 33.2, 31.8 and 31.7 mm, respectively. Based on minimum inhibition concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration of SNPs (300 mg/l) as well as their effect on respiratory chain dehydrogenases, cellular sugar leakage, protein leakage and lipid peroxidation of microbial cells, E. coli was the most affected. Scanning electron microscopy, protein banding and DNA fragmentation proved obvious ultrastructural and molecular alterations of E. coli treated with SNPs. Thus, biogenic SNPs with enhanced properties can be synthesized with the aid of Citrus peel; and such engineered nanoparticles can be used as potent antimicrobial drug against E. coli.

Abstract Silver and titanium-silver nanoparticles have unique properties that make the textile industry progress through the high quality of textiles. Preparation of AgNPs and TiO2-Ag core–shell nanoparticles in different concentrations (0.01% and 0.1% OWF) and applying it to cotton fabrics (Giza 88 and Giza 94) by using succinic acid 5%/SHP as a cross-linking agent. Ultra-violet visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), zeta potential, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM–EDX) are tools for AgNPs and TiO2-AgNPs characterization and the treated cotton. The resulting AgNPs and TiO2-AgNPs were added to cotton fabrics at different concentrations. The antimicrobial activities, UV protection, self-cleaning, and the treated fabrics' mechanical characteristics were investigated. Silver nanoparticles and titanium dioxide-silver nanoparticles core–shell were prepared to be used in the treatment of cotton fabrics to improve their UV protection properties, self-cleaning, elongation and strength, as well as the antimicrobial activities to use the produced textiles for medical and laboratory uses and to increase protection for medical workers taking into account the spread of infection. The results demonstrated that a suitable distribution of prepared AgNPs supported the spherical form. Additionally, AgNPs and TiO2-AgNPs have both achieved stability, with values of (− 20.8 mV and − 30 mV, respectively). The synthesized nanoparticles spread and penetrated textiles' surfaces with efficiency. The findings demonstrated the superior UV protection value (UPF 50+) and self-cleaning capabilities of AgNPs and TiO2-AgNPs. In the treatment with 0.01% AgNPs and TiO2-AgNPs, the tensile strength dropped, but the mechanical characteristics were enhanced by raising the concentration to 0.1%. The results of this investigation demonstrated that the cotton fabric treated with TiO2-AgNPs exhibited superior general characteristics when compared to the sample treated only with AgNPs.

In this research, a novel biogenic strategy for decoration of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) on metal-organic frameworks (MOF) was suggested. The proposed protocol depended upon using of propolis as a green reducing agent for immobilization of Ag NPs on MOF. The XRD and SEM analyses were employed to identify the crystallinity and morphology of the fabricated MOF@Ag material, respectively. The MOF@Ag was utilized as an effective catalyst for the catalytic hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol as a toxic pollutant using potassium borohydride. 4-Nitrophenol was completely reduced in 50 s, as confirmed by UV-Vis experiments. The relationship between the ln(At/A0) and reaction time was found to be linear, indicating that the reduction of 4-nitrophenol with the MOF@Ag nanocatalyst followed a pseudo-first-order kinetic. In addition, the green prepared nanocomposite exhibits consistent catalytic activity for a minimum of five cycles in the hydrogenation of target pollutant. The study also explored the anti-cancer property of the MOF@Ag on the common human colon cancer cell lines (HT-29 and HCT-116). The MTT assay studies on cell viability indicated that the MOF@Ag exhibited notable cytotoxicity versus colon cancer. The MOF@Ag composite fabricated in this study have proven to be efficient in the scopes of water purification and cancer therapy.

In this study, the aqueous seed extract of Trachyspermum copticum was employed to fabricate silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for their antibacterial performance. The structural characteristics of the phytofabricated AgNPs were investigated using ultraviolet–visible, energy dispersive X-ray, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, field emission scanning electron microscope, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Further, the antibacterial effects of AgNPs were evaluated against two standard gram-positive strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes and two standard gram-negative strains of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The findings showed the phytofabrication of spherical-shaped AgNPs with a Z-average diameter of 119.7 nm and the polydispersity index of 0.56. The minimum inhibitory concentration of AgNPs against S. aureus, S. pyogenes, E. coli, and K. pneumoniae strains was 0.25, 1, 0.5, and 0.5 μg·mL−1, respectively. In addition, the minimum bactericidal concentration of these nanoparticles (NPs) against the mentioned strains was 8, 16, 4, and 4 μg·mL−1, respectively. Furthermore, the AgNPs enhanced the generation of reactive oxygen species significantly in all studied bacteria compared to the control (P < 0.05) suggesting an oxidative-associated antibacterial mechanism of AgNPs. Moreover, a dose-dependent cell death was found in all bacterial samples based on flow cytometry analysis. Overall, this study showed a biological approach for the biosynthesis of AgNPs with significant antibacterial effects.

The current study proposed a novel simple and environmentally friendly approach for producing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using an extract of Moringa oleifera leaves (MOL) and optimizing the different experimental factors required for the formation and stability of AgNPs. The formation of nanoparticles was confirmed by a color change from yellow to reddish-brown with a surface plasmon resonance band at 412 nm. The morphology, size, and elemental composition of AgNPs were investigated by zeta potential dynamic light scattering, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy analysis, which showed crystalline and spherical AgNPs. The identification of functional groups was supported by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities of AgNPs were assessed in the degradation of organic Malachite green (MG) dye in the aqueous solution. Two kinetic adsorption models, the pseudo-first-order model and the pseudo-second-order model, and three isotherm models, the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin, were used to mathematically characterize the MG degradation process. The pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Freundlich isotherm model were found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. As a result of their synergistic interaction with the MOL extract solution, the photocatalytic activity of AgNPs increases and they can successfully adapt to the photodegradation of organic dyes in industrial effluents.

Abstract This research explores the eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Cassia occidentalis L. seed extract. Various analytical techniques, including UV–visible spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), were employed for comprehensive characterization. The UV–visible spectra revealed a distinct peak at 425 nm, while the seed extract exhibited peaks at 220 and 248 nm, indicating the presence of polyphenols and phytochemicals. High-resolution TEM unveiled spherical and oval-shaped AgNPs with diameters ranging from 6.44 to 28.50 nm. The SEM exhibiting a spherical shape and a polydisperse nature, thus providing insights into the morphology of the AgNPs. EDX analysis confirmed the presence of silver atoms at 10.01% in the sample. XRD results unequivocally confirm the crystalline nature of the AgNPs suspension, thereby providing valuable insights into their structural characteristics and purity. The antioxidant properties of AgNPs, C. occidentalis seed extract, and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) were assessed, revealing IC50 values of 345, 500, and 434 μg/mL, respectively. Antibacterial evaluation against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli demonstrated heightened sensitivity of bacteria to AgNPs compared to AgNO3. Standard antibiotics, tetracycline, and ciprofloxacin, acting as positive controls, exhibited substantial antibacterial efficacy. The green-synthesized AgNPs displayed potent antibacterial activity, suggesting their potential as a viable alternative to conventional antibiotics for combating pathogenic bacterial infections. Furthermore, potential biomedical applications of AgNPs were thoroughly discussed.

Abstract This research investigates the biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using the leaf extract of Chromolaena odorata (Asteraceae) and their potential as antibacterial and antifungal agents. Characterization techniques like ultraviolet–visible, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Dynamic light scattering and zeta potential (DLS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (FESEM-EDX) confirmed the formation of spherical (AgNPs). UV–vis spectroscopy reaffirms AgNP formation with a peak at 429 nm. DLS and zeta potential measurements revealed an average size of 30.77 nm and a negative surface charge (− 0.532 mV). Further, XRD analysis established the crystalline structure of the AgNPs. Moreover, the TEM descriptions indicate that the AgNPs are spherical shapes, and their sizes ranged from 9 to 22 nm with an average length of 15.27 nm. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis validated the formation of metallic silver and elucidated the surface state composition of AgNPs. Biologically, CO-AgNPs showed moderate antibacterial activity but excellent antifungal activity against Candida tropicalis (MCC 1559) and Trichophyton rubrum (MCC 1598). Low MIC values (0.195 and 0.390 mg/mL) respectively, suggest their potential as effective antifungal agents. This suggests potential applications in controlling fungal infections, which are often more challenging to treat than bacterial infections. Molecular docking results validated that bioactive compounds in C. odorata contribute to antifungal activity by interacting with its specific domain. Further research could pave the way for the development of novel and safe antifungal therapies based on biogenic nanoparticles.

Abstract Background Research on the use of silver nanoparticles in the context of diabetes mellitus has gained attention due to the unique properties of these nanoparticles, such as their antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant characteristics. While the field is still in its early stages, several studies have explored the potential applications and effects of silver nanoparticles in managing diabetes. Main body of the abstract Diabetes mellitus, a global health concern marked by impaired insulin function and high blood glucose levels, has spurred innovative therapeutic investigations, including nanotechnology. Silver nanoparticles have emerged as promising candidates in this pursuit. This abstract provides an overview of current research on silver nanoparticles’ application in managing diabetes mellitus, highlighting their therapeutic potential and mechanisms of action. With unique physicochemical properties like high surface area and bio-compatibility, silver nanoparticles are ideal for diverse biomedical applications. Recent studies show their ability to modulate key pathways in diabetes pathogenesis, enhancing insulin sensitivity, reducing oxidative stress, and supporting pancreatic beta-cell function. Their antimicrobial properties are particularly beneficial for diabetes patients prone to infections. Moreover, using silver nanoparticle-based carriers for anti-diabetic drugs improves drug bio-availability and reduces side effects, potentially enhancing conventional medication efficacy. Abstract Trichinellosis is a worldwide zoonotic disease. The majority of currently available anti-trichinellosis medications exhibit inadequate efficacy. The efficacy of a natively prepared new formulation of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) was evaluated in the treatment of Trichinella spiralis (T. spiralis) infection in mice alone and combined with multivitamin-mineral (MM). After investigating the product’s biological and pharmacological characteristics, its therapeutic dose was estimated to be Ag-NPs at 21.5 mg/kg B.W. This dose was orally inoculated to experimentally infected mice at 3–5 days post-inoculation (dpi) against the mature worms, at 8–10 dpi against the newborn larvae, and at 33–35th dpi against the encapsulated larvae. Each treatment’s efficacy was assessed by scarifying control and treated mice 3 days post-treatment. The drug alone or in supplement form has a high trichinocidal effect exceeding that of the reference drug. Early treatment (3–5 dpi) by Ag-NPs or Ag-NPs + MM and albendazole revealed high efficacy against the intestinal stage, reaching 93.3%, 94.7%, and 90.6% for the three treatments, respectively. Abstract The present study reports the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in powder form using the leaf extract of Azadirachta indica. The synthesis of AgNPs was confirmed by UV–vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, FESEM, and EDX. The synthesized AgNPs were in a powdered state and dispersed completely in 5% polyethylene glycol (PEG) and demonstrated prolonged shelf life and enhanced bioavailability over a year without any aggregation. The resulting silver nanoformulation demonstrated complete inhibition against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Colletotrichum falcatum and 68% to 80% inhibition against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Rhizoctonia solani respectively, at 2000 ppm. The EC50 values determined through a statistical analysis were 66.42, 157.7, 19.06, and 33.30 ppm for S. sclerotiorum, C. falcatum, C. gloeosporioides, and R. solani respectively. The silver nanoformulation also established significant cytotoxicity, with a 74.96% inhibition rate against the human glioblastoma cell line U87MG at 250 ppm. The IC50 value for the cancerous cell lines was determined to be 56.87 ppm through statistical analysis. The proposed silver nanoformulation may be used as a next-generation fungicide in crop improvement and may also find application in anticancer investigations. To the best of our knowledge, this is also the first report of silver nanoformulation demonstrating complete inhibition against the economically significant phytopathogen C. falcatum.

In order to further improve the utilization value of Perilla resources, this study used Perilla seed shell extract (PSHE) as raw material, through single factor experiments, the effects of silver nitrate concentration, extract concentration, ultrasonic power, ultrasonic temperature and ultrasonic time on the silver ion reduction rate of Perilla seed shell extract silver nanoparticles (PSHE@AgNPs) were investigated, response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the ultrasonic-assisted preparation of PSHE@AgNPs, the structure and properties of PSHE@AgNPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and transmission electron microscope. The results showed that the optimal PSHE@AgNPs preparation process involved a silver nitrate concentration 15 mmol/L, extract concentration 0.4 g/mL, ultrasonic power 480 W, ultrasonic temperature 80 ℃, and ultrasonic time 7 hours. Under these conditions, the silver ion reduction rate of PSHE@AgNPs reached an impressive 92.37%. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the presence of a face-centered cubic structure in PSHE@AgNPs. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy showed that there were plant chemical substances on the surface of PSHE@AgNPs，and phenolic compounds were involved in the synthesis of nano-silver. Thermal gravimetric analysis demonstrated the exceptional thermal stability of PSHE@AgNPs，with a major mass loss of 46.74% in the range of 276.7~420.3 ℃. Transmission electron microscopy displayed PSHE@AgNPs as highly dispersed near-spherical particles with an average particle size of 27.97 nm. These research findings would provide valuable theoretical guidance for the ultrasound-assisted green synthesis of PSHE@AgNPs with small particle size, superior dispersion, and remarkable thermal stability in a face-centered cubic structure. This paper describes a simple approach for creating silver (Ag) nanocubes using pulsed laser ablation in a liquid medium. The development of nanocubical formations of Ag obtained by laser ablation using Nd: YAG laser was conducted for 5, 10, 15, and 20 min. The surface morphological analysis was performed using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) to show the formation of silver nanocubes with edge lengths ranging from 150 nm to 250 nm. The UV-visible spectroscopy demonstrates that the concentration of Ag nanostructures, evidenced by the characteristic localized surface plasmon resonance band near 400 nm in the colloidal solution containing Ag nanoparticles, increased with the increasing laser ablation duration from 5 min to 20 min. The growth mechanism for Ag nanocubes can be easily understood with the change in laser ablation time from 5 to 10, 15, and then 20 min. The Ag sheets with no specific shape start to develop after 5 min of laser ablation, and after 10 min, larger particles form. Then, after 15 min, a small number of cube-like nanostructures with rough and uneven edges was obtained. At the end of 20 min, a complete cubic formed with fine and distinct edges and a very large amount of nanocubes. The elemental silver signal was present in Ag nanocubes, as revealed by the energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) spectra. The produced Ag nanocubes may be used to construct two-dimensional nanocomposites with practical applications in the electrical, optoelectronic, electrochemical, and biological areas. This study evaluated the efficacy of phytogenic silver and zinc nanoparticles in improving heat resilience in various wheat varieties. The silver and zinc nanoparticles were synthesized using plant leaf extract and characterized using various techniques. Four wheat varieties (DBW187, Black Wheat, DBW 50, and PBW 621) were subjected to field trials. The random block design was used, and nanoparticles in different concentrations were applied at various growth stages and morphologically, and yield parameters were recorded. UV–vis spectroscopy spectral analysis showed peaks for Ag nanoparticles at 420 nm wavelength and Zn nanoparticles at 240 and 350 nm wavelength, depicting the preliminary confirmation of nanoparticle synthesis. Electron microscopic analysis (TEM and SEM) provided morphological insights and confirmed synthesis of fine-sized particle mostly in a range between 10 and 60 nm. Energy dispersive x-ray analysis confirmed the elemental composition of the synthesized nanoparticles, with Ag and Zn elements detected in their respective samples. It also confirmed the oxide nature of synthesized ZnNPs. Dynamic light scattering analysis provided size distribution profiles, indicating average sizes of approximately 61.8 nm for Ag nanoparticles and 46.5 nm for Zn nanoparticles. The concentrations of Ag and Zn nanoparticles in the samples were found to be 196.3 ppm and 115.14 ppm, respectively, through atomic absorption spectroscopic analysis. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis revealed characteristic functional groups present in the nanoparticles. The results of field experiments established that Ag nanoparticles at 75 ppm concentration exhibited the most significant enhancements in plant growth. Conversely, Zn nanoparticles at a 100 ppm concentration demonstrated the most substantial improvements in the growth and yield of heat-stressed wheat varieties. Thymus daenensis Celak. (T. daenensis) essential oil (TDO) was encapsulated into beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD) by co-precipitation method and incorporated into polylactic acid (PLA) films along with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to generate the active PLA film for extending the ground beef shelf life at 4 °C. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the proper dispersion of AgNPs, TDO, and β-CD/TDO throughout the PLA films. Different physical properties were observed in the active PLA films, so that the addition of β-CD/TDO in the films increased the thickness and decreased the tensile strength (TS) and elongation at break compared to TDO films. The color of the AgNP films was lightly darker than the others. The microbial evaluation of the packaged ground beef samples with active PLA films indicated that accompanying AgNPs with β-CD/TDO and TDO could synergistically inhibit total viable bacteria counts, psychrotrophic bacteria counts, and Enterobacteriaceae counts during the sample's storage for 12 days. This effectiveness was also observed in controlling changes in pH and total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) in the samples. Considering the efficient entrapment of TDO in β-CD, the shelf life of samples was significantly extended, due to sustained and long-lasting release of the essential oil compounds, compared to the net TDO films. The present investigation demonstrates a simple, sensitive and selective colorimetric probe for the detection of Hg2+ in milk samples employing redox interaction of Hg2+ ions with citrate‐stabilised silver nanoparticles, inducing colour change from yellow to colourless. Milk samples were pretreated by ultrasound assistance in acidic media. The detection limit (LOD) was 6.17 ppb using UV–Visible spectrophotometer with linear correlation (R2 = 0.9901) at 10–2000 ppb solution of Hg2+ ions. Three different types of carbon screen-printed electrodes consisting of mesoporous carbon (MC), carbon nanofibers (CNF), and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) were used as carbon supports for deposition of Ag, in the absence of reductant in the plating solution. The SPEs were characterized by Raman spectroscopy and show marked differences in their structure. To drive the metal deposition, the carbon supports were potentiostatically pre-treated in supporting electrolyte. The metal deposition occurred in AgNO3 solution and resulted in the formation of homogeneously distributed metal nanoparticles with type and amount depending on both the potential used in the pre-treatment step and the structure of the carbon electrodes. Larger metal amounts and higher particle densities (in the 109 cm−2 range) together with smaller particle mean sizes (in the 40- to 60-nm range) were obtained by using more negative potential for the pre-treatment. A further way to influence the characteristics of the metal deposit was based on double or triple consecutive pre-treatment/deposition cycles. The involvement of the TRP vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) cation channel on the 5‐Fluorouracil (5‐FU)‐caused Ca2+ signals through the activation of the apoptotic signaling pathway and stimulating the mitochondrial Ca2+ and Zn2+ accumulation‐induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) productions in several cancer cells, except the colorectal cancer (HT‐29) cell line, was recently reported. I aimed to investigate the action of silver nanoparticles (SiNPs) and 5‐FU incubations through the activation of TRPV1 on ROS, apoptosis, and cell death in the HT‐29 cell line. The cells were divided into four groups: control, SiNP (100 µM for 48 h), 5‐FU (25 μM for 24 h), and 5‐FU + SiNP. SiNP treatment through TRPV1 activation (via capsaicin) stimulated the oxidant and apoptotic actions of 5‐FU in the cells, whereas they were diminished in the cells by the TRPV1 antagonist (capsazepine) treatment. The apoptotic and cell death actions of 5‐FU were determined by increasing the propidium iodide/Hoechst rate, caspase‐3, ‐8, and ‐9 activations, mitochondrial membrane depolarization, lipid peroxidation, and ROS, but decreasing the glutathione and glutathione peroxidase. The increase of cytosolic free Ca2+ and Zn2+ into mitochondria via the stimulation of TRPV1 current density increased oxidant and apoptotic properties of 5‐FU in the cells. Summary: The biological synthesis of functionalised nanoparticles using plant materials is considered more cost‐effective and eco‐friendly than chemical and physical methods. Hence, this study demonstrated the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Houttuynia cordata Thunb rhizome (HCR). The extract, prepared with distilled water, provided the required phytochemical components, such as flavonoids, terpenoids, phenols, proteins and other essential bio‐reducing agents. The AgNPs were exposed to reaction conditions, such as temperatures, pH values and AgNO3 concentrations, to identify the optimum synthesis condition and explore their impacts on particle size and antibacterial action against Gram‐positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram‐negative (Salmonella enterica and Shigella dysenteriae) foodborne pathogens. The formation of AgNPs was indicated by specific surface plasmon resonance (SPR) intensity at 440–450 nm and colour changes under different reaction conditions. The structure and size distribution characterised by SEM and TEM revealed that the AgNPs exhibited a spherical‐shaped structure with irregular contours, regular distribution and aggregation. Although the average particle size ranged from 2 to 100 nm, relatively smaller sizes were detected at 10 mM (54.30), 80 °C (49.50 nm) and pH 6 (60.16 nm) conditions. The FTIR spectrum and EDX spectral signals affirmed the presence of reducing and stabilising agents in HCR extract, following the reduction of AgNPs from Ag+ to Ag0. AgNPs also exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against S. aureus, S. enterica and Sh. dysenteriae, indicating a broad spectrum for various applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. In this study, silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were synthesized in biogenic methods. It is aimed to improve the electrochemical sensor efficiency of synthesized Ag NPs against the pharmaceutical drug paracetamol. For this purpose, fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultra-violet visible spectroscopy (Uv–vis), X-ray differentiation (XRD), and transmission electron spectroscopy (TEM) analyses were performed to elucidate the structure of the synthesized Ag NPs. In the TEM characterization results, the mean size of the NPs was found to be 19.035 nm using TEM characterization and the XRD results, the crystalline size of the NPs was 11.66 nm. Sensor studies were performed with cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) techniques. Paracetamol showed a sensitivity of approximately 0.4 V to Ag NPs in this study. This study presents a green, novel, one-pot, and single-step method for synthesizing reduced graphene oxide/silver nanocomposites (RGO/Ags) with different Ag ratios using Roselle extract and 80kGy of γ-ray for symmetric supercapacitor applications. As a natural antioxidant, Roselle extract served as a scavenger of oxidative free radicals to inhibit the oxidation of graphene oxide/silver nitrate suspensions (GO/AgO3), which were undergoing radiolysis under γ irradiation. An additional sample of GO/AgO3 was irradiated with the same dose in the absence of Roselle for comparability. The efficient reduction of GO/AgO3 has been assessed by several analytical techniques, including XRD, FTIR, TEM, and Raman spectroscopy. The presence of Roselle hindered the formation of the AgO phase while concurrently promoting the construction of the Ag phase. Furthermore, using Roselle extract results in a more homogeneous dispersion of spherical silver nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets. Symmetric supercapacitor has been assembled from arbitrary samples amongst RGO/Ags, which showed good performance like low internal resistance and suitable specific capacitance (96 F/g at current density 0.2 A/g). Plant-mediated processes offer a more straightforward and cost-effective alternative to conventional chemical and physical methods for the reduction of silver ions to silver metallic nanoparticles. This study was conducted to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using a solution of silver nitrate (AgNO3) and a local Basciftlik white potato cultivar (S. tuberosum). Furthermore, the study aimed to compare antioxidant activity of nano-silver particles with that of the potato extract. The potato cultivar was extracted with deionized water and the solution was filtrated. The filtrate was reacted with AgNO3 solution to obtain the AgNPs. The structure of synthesized AgNPs was determined by a spectroscopic study, and characteristic functional groups were analyzed by a fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The signal observed at 3267 cm−1 is indicative of the hydroxyl functional group. The highest absorption at 429 nm in ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) spectrum confirmed the occurrence of the synthesized AgNPs. The biogenic crystalline structure of the synthesized AgNPs was verified by an X-ray diffraction analysis. Average size and morphology of the St-AgNPs were determined by Scanning Electron Microscope analysis, which also indicated the formation of the AgNPs with an average size of 37.31 nm. Cancer is a major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Ongoing research into the development of nanomedicine includes the use of fungi, which have aided humans in their fight against cancer owing to their effortless and abundant aids. Existing clinical treatments for various types of tumors are ineffective, resulting in significant side effects and setbacks. In pharmaceutical, medical, and biomedical paradigms, the creation of nanoparticles (NPs) from fungal entities has been viewed as a promising approach recently. Different biological properties are the most prominent curative applications of the recently developed microbial based NPs for cancer treatment. Compounds found in many fungi that fight cancer function as a source of reactive oxygen species, inhibitors of mitotic kinase during cell division, and inhibitors of angiogenesis. This stops the multiplication of cancer cells and eventually kills them. Most studies agree that fungi can help in cancer treatment because they can handle many metals and store them in their bodies. This means that they can accept metals inside cells very well and bind to the cell walls very efficiently. [Display omitted] Novel two-dimensional MXene with unique optical and electrical properties has become a new focus in the field of sensing. In particular, their metallic conductivity, good biocompatibility and high anchoring ability to biomaterials make them attractive candidates. Despite such remarkable properties, there are certain limitations, such as low oxidative stability. MXene-Metal interactions are an effective strategy to maintain the long-term stability of MXene, while also improving the electrochemical activity and optical properties. Herein, a series of MXene/Ag nanocomposites including Ti 3 C 2 /Ag, Nb 2 C/Ag and V 2 C/Ag were designed based on the surface chemistry characteristics of MXene, where MXene served as the substrate for in-situ growth of silver nanoparticles via self-reduction of Ag(NH 3) 2 +. The results showed that V 2 C MXene has the strongest self-reducing ability due to its multiple variable valence states, larger interlayer space and more reactive groups. Moreover, V 2 C/Ag exhibited unexpected oxygen reduction reaction catalytic activity and photothermal performance. In view of which, an electrochemiluminescence-photothermal (ECL-photothermal) immunosensor was developed using V 2 C/Ag as ECL anchor and photothermal reagent for ultrasensitive detection of Lipolysis stimulated lipoprotein receptor. This work not only provides a simple and effective synthesis method of MXene supported metal nanocomposites, but also provides more inspirations for exploring the efficient biosensing strategies. Our study focused on the optical behavior, methylene blue (MB) dye degradation potential, antibacterial performance, and silver and trioxide mineral interaction with different bacterial species. We found that the addition of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to neodymium oxide (Nd2O3) resulted in a significant response, with an enlargement of the inhibition zone for bacterial species such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Specifically, the inhibition zone for S. aureus increased from 9.3 ± 0.5 mm for pure Nd2O3 to 16.7 ± 0.4 mm for the Ag/Nd2O3 nano-composite, while for E. coli, it increased from 8.8 ± 0.4 mm for Nd2O3 to 15.9 ± 0.3 mm for Ag/Nd2O3. Furthermore, the optical behavior of the composites showed a clear band-gap narrowing with the addition of Ag NPs, resulting in enhanced electronic localization. The direct and indirect transitions reduced from 6.7 to 6.1 eV and from 5.2 to 2.9 eV, respectively. Overall, these results suggest that the Ag/Nd2O3 nano-composite has potential applications in sensor industries and water treatment, thanks to its enhanced optical behavior, antibacterial performance, and efficient MB degradation capabilities. In terms of MB degradation, the Ag/Nd2O3 mixed system exhibited more efficient degradation compared to pure Nd2O3. There is a growing interest in standardizing the biocompatible, cost‐effective, and eco‐friendly manufacturing techniques for metallic nanostructures due to their widespread applications in the industrial and medical sectors. In recent decades, green synthesis has been proven as the most suitable technique for synthesizing metal nanoparticles. The present research study investigates the use of Cassia angustifolia (senna) leaves and Pistacia vera (Pistachio) nuts to prepare crude aqueous extracts, ethanolic extracts, and biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The prepared aqueous extracts were used as reducing, stabilizing, and capping agents for the production of silver nanoparticles. These AgNPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy. The outcomes validated the formation of stable AgNPs with bioactive functional components. In vitro antibacterial, anticancer, anti‐inflammatory, and antioxidant potentials were assessed by Kirby–Bauer disk diffusion test, MIC test, MBC test, MTT assay, BSA denaturation inhibition assay, and DPPH antioxidant assay, respectively. Results confirmed that the tested plant extract possesses a variety of bioactive compounds with various biological activities and is therapeutically effective. These findings verified that C. angustifolia and P. vera are promising bioresources for the synthesis of therapeutic extracts and nanostructures with commendable therapeutic potency. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles, mostly because of the evident limitations associated with chemical and physical methods. Green synthesis, commonly referred to as "biogenic synthesis," is seen as an alternative approach to produce AgNPs (silver nanoparticles). The current work focuses on the use of Asterarcys sp. (microalga) for biological reduction of AgNO3 to produce AgNPs. The optimal parameters for the reduction of AgNPs were determined as molarity of 3 mM for AgNO3 and an incubation duration of 24 h at pH 9, using a 20:80 ratio of algal extract to AgNO3. The biosynthesized Ast-AgNPs were characterised using ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), zeta potential, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) with selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns. The nanoparticles exhibited their highest absorption in the UV–visible spectra at 425 nm. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigation indicated the presence of characteristic peaks at certain angles: 38.30° (1 1 1), 44.40° (2 0 0), 64.64° (2 2 0), and 77.59° (3 1 1) according to the JCPDS file No. 04-0783. Based on SEM and TEM, the Ast-AgNPs had an average size of 35 nm and 52 nm, respectively. The zeta potential was determined to be − 20.8 mV, indicating their stability. The highest antibacterial effectiveness is shown against Staphylococcus aureus, with a zone of inhibition of 25.66 ± 1.52 mm at 250 μL/mL conc. of Ast-AgNPs. Likewise, Ast-AgNPs significantly suppressed the growth of Fusarium sp. and Curvularia sp. by 78.22% and 85.05%, respectively, at 150 μL/mL conc. of Ast-AgNPs. In addition, the Ast-AgNPs exhibited significant photocatalytic activity in degrading methylene blue (MB), achieving an 88.59% degradation in 120 min, revealing multiple downstream applications of Ast-AgNPs. Controlling foodborne pathogens is challenging due to the new emergence of antimicrobial resistance to conventional antimicrobials. Therefore, new alternative antimicrobials need to be developed to control foodborne pathogens and avoid microbial resistance. Furthermore, the potential of trans-Himalayan high-altitude seabuckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides ) plants has not been explored much for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles having antibacterial properties. Hence, this study investigated the development of long-term stable silver nanomaterials using the aqueous extract of seabuckthorn leaves through a green-synthesis approach and evaluated their antibacterial efficacy. These synthesized nanomaterials were characterized along with their stability using UV spectrometry for lambda max (λmax) characteristics. Further, the nanoparticles were evaluated for zeta potential (mV), polydispersity index, particle size distribution (nm), electrophoretic mobility (μmcm/Vs) and conductivity (mS/cm). The seabuckthorn silver nanoparticles are of 260nm size and stable (−15mV zeta potential) with good antioxidant and antibacterial properties against two typical food pathogens, e.g., Escherichia coli (MTCC 3222) and Salmonella typhimurium (MTCC 3224). Hence, this study developed an eco-friendly, rapid, low-cost green synthesis method for the development of seabuckthorn-coated, stable silver nanoparticles with good antibacterial activity against foodborne pathogens. Nowadays the most common gastrointestinal related gram‐negative H. pylori and E. coli pathogen bacteria that are considered to be the main causes for the development of various gastric diseases and bloodstream infections are rapidly developing resistance against the standard antibiotics, commonly used in the clinical practices. One of the alternative high potential approaches for solving problems of bacterial resistance includes applications of silver‐based materials and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). In the present study two types of amine‐ and triazol‐ functional polyorganosilsesquioxane nanocomposite sorbent hydrogels with narrowly dispersed AgNPs were developed. In vitro antibacterial activity and cytotoxicity tests showed concentration‐ and time‐dependent activity of the prepared nanocomposites against gram‐negative E. coli and H. pylori bacteria and a reduced cytotoxicity towards Caco‐2 human colon epithelial cells. Molecular structures and chemical compositions of the synthesized composites elucidated with transmission and scanning electron microscopy and UV‐Vis spectroscopy revealed spherical and narrowly dispersed along the polymer matrices AgNPs with average sizes of 3–5 nm. It was estimated that the chemical composition and particularly the zeta‐potentials values that were found to be dependent on the molecular structures of the synthesized nanocomposites had a high influence on the AgNPs antibacterial activity and cytoxicity profiles.
